When
searching for an appropriate lesson plan I was quickly shocked by how many
lesson plans exist on the web that do not include any form of technology nor
coincide with standards at all. Eventually I came across a lesson plan on the
Rutgers website and selected it due to the fact that it coincided with
standards, integrated technology, and was well organized. A link to my analysis
of the plan can be found here.
I am pleased to announce that there were not many gaps within this lesson plan. It is quite clear that the educators who developed the plan were very knowledgeable about state curriculum standards as well as how to successfully incorporate technology into the curriculum. When I looked at the plan I was quickly able to identify which standards were met and how technology supported the lesson, and therefore the gaps that I filled in included very few neglected standards. Additionally, the PowerPoint was used to sustain the lesson and therefore, I included other visual presentation alternatives when it came time for student created presentations. I also included a couple other technologies into the mix, such as iClickers, to increase student participation with technology and supplement the lesson overall. Moreover, the majority of the lesson was student centered and therefore I added ways in which technology could include more teacher centered roles, especially regarding assessment.
Each technology provided in the lesson plan is essential to achieving curriculum goals especially since state standards require cultural knowledge. Through the use of the technologies listed one can virtually travel to Italy and learn about various aspects of culture that they would never be able to learn from a text book. Additionally, the technologies used teach students practical skills that they will use in the future such as trip planning.
I'm amazed at how in depth your lesson plan was and how many standards it covered. The one I had located for my work was very minimal.(Also, should only take several days compared to the week they suggested). But, it would allow an educator to adopt a rough model found on the web into the classroom with slight modifications. I added several facets to the lesson plan that I believe could have been modified. And, overall I liked the idea behind the process. I guess using a combination of discovered lesson plans in full-length and/or modified lessons with your adaptations would be a good way to go about teaching all the content needed at the high school level.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you found a lesson plan you liked so much! I felt it very difficult to find lesson plans for Italian. I feel, compared to the other subject areas, there is a lot less out there. I ended up modifying the lesson a lot because I felt it very vague and insufficient. I feel a lot of the ones I found were also "outdated" or "behind" with little technology. There are so many things that can be incorporated into the lesson plan because of technology that would better engage the students. With Italian we have to work hard to prove to the students that learning the language is worth it and that it can be fun.
ReplyDeleteI was really impressed with your lesson plan! Just like Emanuela said it was difficult to find great lesson plans in italian compared to other subject areas. Your lesson went into great detail and I feel like it would be a good lesson to one say use in my future classroom with my students.
ReplyDeleteSara, I too feel the same way about the lack of lesson plans available that integrate technology and standards in their lessons. The standards being used should definitely in some way be present because they are the basis of what students need to know as well as focal points for teachers to create the lesson around them. The technology aspect is important as well. I feel that teachers should incorporate more technology in their lessons because it is the way of the future. Students today and of the future are always more engaged in the lesson when it involves some sort of technology and it prepares them for educational situations they will face in the future.
